Fort Regent developers seek groundwork permission
BBCDevelopers at the Fort Regent site are seeking permission to carry out grounds investigations ahead of its £110m redevelopment.
The Jersey Development Company (JDC) said investigations were needed to inform on "the detailed design" of parts of the building.
Plans for the site in St Helier include a 2,500-seat theatre, a 12-lane bowling alley, a six-screen cinema, play areas, climbing and bouldering facilities and places to eat and drink.
JDC said the investigation would comprise of drilling shallow boreholes, excavating hand dug trial pits, sampling and testing and backfilling and reinstatement.
It said the Fort Regent building, which is Grade I listed, would be treated with "the highest level of care" during the investigations.
JDC said: "Works will avoid direct contact with historic foundations wherever possible.
"Boreholes and trial pits will be located to avoid known or suspected archaeological features [and] minimise impact on historic landscaping, paths and fabric."
Lee Henry, chief executive officer, said whilst the approach was "intrusive" in disturbing the post-1970 built elements, it would "respect the in-situ historic fabric and will not result in any disturbance of the original 19th Century features".
