Man charged with raping 16-year-old girl

A man has been charged with raping a 16-year-old girl in Cumbria.

The girl was attacked in Brampton, near Hadrian's Wall, at about 01:00 GMT on Friday, Cumbria Police said. She is being supported by specialist officers.

Peter Bennett, 54, of Croft Road, Brampton, has been charged with rape and sexual assault.

He was due to appear at Carlisle Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
