Part of the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire will be closed for up to three weeks due to falling rocks.

Derbyshire County Council said a 200m (656ft) section of the popular walking route had been shut near Manystones Cutting as a safety precaution after large chunks of rockface fell onto the path.

Investigation work will now be carried out to check the stability of the remaining rockface and whether any work needs to be carried out to male the trail safe, the authority said.

Carol Wood, cabinet member for net zero and environment, said: "We'll be working to get the route re-opened as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience while this important work is carried out."
