A plan for a retirement complex with 48 apartments and 25 cottages has been given the go-ahead by a planning inspector after it was rejected by a council.

Churchill Living's project in South Street, Bridport, was rejected by Dorset Council in March 2025 but it was approved following a two-day planning inquiry.

Planning inspector David Prentis said the "significant shortfall of over 8,000 dwellings" in the council's area meant that thhe new homes were necessary and would meet a need for retirement accommodation.

The complex will also include communal facilities and car parking.
