Man arrested after police officers assaulted

A man has been arrested after two police officers were assaulted near Bognor Regis.

Sussex Police said it was called to a report of "a vehicle in the middle of the road where the driver appeared to be asleep" in Lane End Road, in Elmer, at 18:00 GMT on Sunday.

The vehicle had appeared to be driven down the road, police said.

The man in the car assaulted two officers, with one sustaining a head injury, the force added.

He has since been released from hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of assault and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He was taken into custody where he was also arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Sussex Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
