A man has been charged over a large fire that wrecked an old shopping centre in North Ayrshire last week.

The blaze heavily damaged the old Forum centre in Irvine and forced the neighbouring Rivergate Shopping Centre to close for hours.

No-one was injured in the fire, but a Celtic supporter's club based in the old Forum was left seriously damaged.

A 41-year-old man has been charged and was due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

The former shopping centre at the Forum has lain derelict for years.

Last year, three men were convicted of operating a cannabis factory from the building.
