The M25 anti-clockwise in Hertfordshire was closed for several hours due to a lorry fire.

National Highways said the motorway was initially shut in both directions between junction 25 for Waltham Cross and junction 24 for Potters Bar at about 13:20 GMT.

The clockwise carriageway reopened at about 15:00 and the anti-clockwise section was open again by about 21:30.

Contractors worked into the evening to clear and treat a "significant oil spillage" on the anti-clockwise side of the road.

It said the fire had been put out and the lorry had been recovered from the scene.

It thanked drivers for their patience and said there were still long delays in the area, but they were beginning to ease.
