Paul Tyler, 66, was sentenced at Hull Crown Court

A prisoner has been jailed for a further 18 years after he admitted the sexual abuse of two children.

Paul Tyler, 66, formerly of Scarborough, was serving a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2012 for sexual offences against children in the West Yorkshire area when a new investigation was launched, Humberside Police said.

It began when a man went to Bridlington police station in 2022 and reported Tyler had raped him when he was a child, the force said.

Later, a woman came forward and told officers that Tyler had also raped her as a girl.

Tyler pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to five counts of rape of a boy under 13 and the sexual assault of a boy under 13 in December 2024.

In November 2025, he appeared at the same court where he entered guilty pleas to two counts of causing a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, rape of a girl under 13 and two counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13.

Tyler was sentenced at Hull Crown Court earlier and will spend a further 18 years in prison. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Det Con Clare Gascoigne said: "I want to commend the extraordinary bravery shown by the man and woman who came forward and reported Tyler's offending against them when they were just children.

"These offences took place many years ago, and coming forward to report abuse suffered as a child requires immense courage.

"Their strength in speaking out has been vital in bringing this offender to justice, and by doing this, they have not only sought accountability for what was done to them but also helped protect other children."
