Wombles urge 'everyday folk' to join spring clean
BBCA council is joining forces with a local litter picking group for a "big borough spring clean".
Boston Borough Council said it was working with the Wyberton Wombles of Boston Common to ensure the town "looks its best" as the warmer weather approaches.
Anyone interested in volunteering on the day would also be provided with personal protective equipment, the authority said.
The event will run between 09:00 and 12:00 GMT on Sunday 22 March.
The council said the clean-up would focus on three specific locations in the town.
Boston College on Skirbeck Road, The Sidings Medical Practice on Sleaford Road and Tunnard Street.
Councillor Callum Butler, portfolio holder for environmental services, said: "We're thrilled to be working alongside the Wyberton Wombles again for another spring clean.
"These annual events ensure our town and surrounding villages are looking their best in time for the warmer, spring months and, of course, they're also such a fantastic example of community partnership in action."
The Wyberton Wombles are part of a national network of local community groups led by The Wombles Community Charity, which offers practical advice and support.
It is named after a BBC TV show from the 1970s - based on books by Elizabeth Beresford, about a secretive group of creatures who live beneath Wimbledon Common, collecting and recycling the litter left behind by "everyday folk".
Steve Slater, from the Wyberton group, urged people to get involved.
"Even if it's just for an hour, every bit truly helps," he said.
