Improvements by nursery provider after Ofsted visit

The operator of two nurseries that were temporarily shut by Ofsted has met required standards following a new inspection, said the regulator.

The Playday nurseries in Hemdean Road and Milestone Way, in Caversham, Berkshire, were visited by Ofsted in January when weaknesses were found in staff recruitment, safeguarding and records.

The regulator said the Hemdean Road nursery was visited again in February and inspectors found improvements had been made there, including "strengthened" recruitment processes. The Milestone Way nursery has closed.

The nurseries' management said it was "very pleased" with Ofsted's latest findings.

Playday director Jan Day said the two-week enforced closure at the Milestone Way site had created "financial implications" that led to it being shut.

She said all children and staff were "immediately provided with a place" at the Hemdean Road nursery.

"We were very pleased with the Ofsted outcome on 19 February," she said. "We are happy to confirm that all actions were met and exceeded their expectations and their parting words after seeing our nursery in action were 'I'm blown away'."
