Rolls-Royce has applied for planning permission to build a new engineering, technology and safety building at its Sinfin A campus in Derby.

The aerospace and defence company has submitted an application to Derby City Council to build the new two-storey facility on land off Victory Road.

Rolls-Royce has said in planning documents that the proposed development would replace "outdated infrastructure" and allow it to improve efficiency and working conditions for its staff.

Construction of the building would be expected to take about 18 months if the application is approved.

The proposed facility would house engineering facilities, laboratories, workshop areas, parts storage as well as welfare, office and meeting spaces.

Planning documents said the proposed building would have an indoor floor space of 12,045 sq m (129,651 sq ft).

"The proposal will provide a new purpose-built facility, providing better working standards and environments and more efficient space utilisation," a report submitted with the application added.
