Man, 59, dies after fire breaks out at Fife flats

A man has died following a fire at a block of flats in Fife.

Police, ambulances and firefighters were called to the blaze at the ground-floor property on Somerville Square, Burntisland at about 05:30.

The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said a multi-agency investigation has been launched, though police said there are not believed to be suspicious circumstances.

Three fire engines attended the scene along with an ambulance and special operations response team from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Firefighters left just before 8:00.

Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing.
