Guernsey specialist housing development completed
Guernsey Housing AssociationA new housing development for people with a range of physical and learning disabilities has been completed, Guernsey Housing Association (GHA) has said.
The La Vieille Plage development - designed with input from Health and Social Care - is providing high-quality, purpose-built accommodation for up to 14 people.
The building, at L'Islet, also included facilities for staff, including an office, overnight accommodation and a therapy room for residents, project leaders said.
GHA chief operating officer Lisa de Kooker said it was "really exciting" to have people move into a place "created just for them, where they can feel supported, build their independence and enjoy a better quality of life."
'Carefully considered'
She said every detail of the building had been carefully considered "to support independence and dignity, with care delivered in a way that works for residents and not limited by the building itself."
The GHA said each of the one-bedroom flats included its own kitchen and bathroom, as well as access to shared communal spaces to encourage "social interaction and a sense of community".
Dr George Oswald, President of the Committee for Health and Social Care, said he was "grateful" to everyone involved for "helping deliver something that will make a real difference to people's lives."
