Passengers are facing disruption across Greater Anglia routes after a train hit a deer near Thetford on Wednesday morning

Train services heading through Thetford have been delayed or cancelled after a train hit a deer.

Greater Anglia said its 05:33 GMT Norwich to Cambridge service was involved.

The line is blocked and a rescue train is being sent to retrieve the damaged one.

Routes between Norwich and Cambridge and Stansted Airport, as well as some East Midlands services - have been affected.

Replacement buses and alternative ticket acceptance are being organised, Greater Anglia said.

The line from Norwich towards Ely is currently blocked and trains running towards Norwich will be disrupted, the rail operator added.

Norfolk Police also said the A1075 has been closed between Thetford and Watton due to a shut railway crossing.

Elsewhere a broken down train at Ilford in London is disrupting services between London Liverpool Street and Norwich, Colchester Town and Harwich, Braintree, Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze and Ipswich.
