Orange Order parades take place in other parts of Scotland but a bid to stage one in Stonehaven was banned in 2024

A fresh application has been made to stage an Orange Order march in Stonehaven.

The organisers of the proposed event on 27 June say it would commemorate the Battle of the Boyne.

Aberdeenshire Council has set a deadline for any representations for 22 April.

Two years ago the Orange Lodge was banned from marching through Stonehaven to mark the opening of a new lodge in the area.

In March 2024, a sheriff dismissed an appeal by the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland against the decision by Aberdeenshire Council, and the subsequent opening of a new Orange Lodge in the town passed peacefully.

The application for the June event said the march would start at Baird Park and finish at the road junction leading to the old Stonehaven radio building.

The organisers have promised a qualified chief marshall, and would provide one qualified marshall for every 10 participants, which would include a flute band.
