An extra £250,000 has been awarded to renovate a leisure centre in Lancashire.

Hyndburn Council said the additional money will be used for the project at Mercer Hall in Great Harwood.

The new money means a total of £915,000 has been secured for the building over the last two years.

The additional funding, from the UK government's Pride in Place Impact scheme, will allow the third stage of the hall's revamp to start, focusing on major upgrades to the two wings and reception area.

Work will also be done to turn the former sauna and steam room spaces and reception area into modern spaces for community use, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Mercer Hall was built between 1913 and 1921. It is named after scientist John Mercer who came from the town and invented a treatment to improve the quality of cotton fabric.
