A road has re-opened following a vehicle fire and a significant hydraulic oil spill.

Avon and Somerset Police said it was called to the A38 at Thurloxton, along with the fire service, just before 10:20 BST on Saturday after reports of a vehicle fire and oil on the road.

Somerset Council said the road, which needed specialist treatment, was closed in both directions near the Fruit Farm, between Knotcroft Lane and Mill Lane.

The closure was in place for several hours, with drivers urged to plan ahead and seek alternative routes.

"Officers supported the fire service who put the fire out, but a full closure has been put in place from the turn off for Thurloxton Farm to the junction with Knotcroft Lane while the road is cleared," police said.
