Operation Brock is due to be in place on the M20 to help manage traffic flow over the Easter period, Kent and Medway Resilience Forum said

A date has been set for Operation Brock to be implemented as high passenger numbers travelling through Kent to Europe are expected over Easter.

The contraflow system will be in place on the M20, coastbound, between junctions 8 and 9, with a reduced speed limit to allow a dedicated lane to be created for HGVs to queue.

A Kent and Medway Resilience Forum (KMRF) spokesperson said a barrier is due to be installed on 1 April and the M20 is scheduled to reopen on 2 April.

They said the barrier is planned to be removed overnight on 7 April, with the motorway reopening as normal on 8 April.

KMRF strategic lead for border disruption, Simon Jones, said: "We understand the decision to put the Brock barrier in place at busy times is not always popular, and we do not take the decision lightly.

"The predicted number of crossings during this week fully support its deployment."

The KMRF advised drivers to check their route before travelling, allow extra time for their journey and to pack extra essentials including food, water and medication.
