A murder investigation has been launched after a 71-year-old was found with "significant injuries" at a home in west London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers and paramedics were called to reports of a woman seriously injured at a property on Bath Road, Hounslow on Sunday, just after 10:00 GMT.

Despite their efforts she died at the scene. Her family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

No arrests have been made. Officers say enquiries are ongoing and extra patrols are being carried out in the area to reassure residents.

A crime scene remains in place while Met detectives investigate.

Det Ch Insp Matthew Denby said: "This is a tragic incident in which a woman has lost her life.

"We are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and we are keeping an open mind to pursue all lines of inquiry.

"We urge anyone who was in the area of Bath Road, who may have seen or heard anything unusual, to come forward. Even small pieces of information can prove vital."
