'Help' for energy bills and PM 'resists' Trump warships call

The Guardian focuses on government plans to send "minesweeping drones" to the Strait of Hormuz. It says officials have warned that deploying warships, as requested by the US, could make the situation in the Gulf worse.

According to the Daily Telegraph, what it calls the UK's "refusal" to send military vessels "risks worsening a row" between Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump. The Times says the decision will "probably anger the president" who has previously dismissed the prime minister as "no Winston Churchill".

The Financial Times highlights India's success in negotiating with Iran safe passage for two of its gas tankers. India's foreign minister tells the FT that from his country's perspective "it is better that we reason and we co-ordinate and we get a solution than we don't".

The i Paper leads on the government's forthcoming announcement about help with energy bills. It says ministers are planning a wider scheme for households, as well as the immediate support for those using heating oil.

In its editorial, The Sun instead urges the prime minister to axe a September rise in fuel duty. The Daily Telegraph says critics have suggested other ways to tackle rising bills - such as opening new drilling sites in the North Sea.

The Daily Mail leads on the meningitis outbreak at the University of Kent. The Mail says experts have described the number and severity of cases as "very rare" and "extremely concerning".

The American rapper Snoop Dogg has told the Daily Mirror that he wants to turn Swansea into the "Vegas of Wales" after taking a stake in the city's football club. He insists to the paper that he is not "playing", and that he has "connections" to get the "best chefs" as well as with "businessmen who can finance world class hotels and clubs".
