Three people were left with injuries after a double-decker bus crashed into a bridge.

The driver is thought to have experienced a medical episode at the wheel of the vehicle, which hit the bridge on Loddon Bridge Road in Woodley, Berkshire, at about 09:15 GMT.

A woman in her 80s and a woman in her 40s suffered facial injuries and were taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) for treatment.

A teenager also sustained minor injuries but was treated at the scene.

A double-decker bus is pictured from behind. The upper deck of the vehicle has sustained significant damage and is tilted backwards. Many of the windows appear to be smashed. An electronic display reads "13 Woodley". A poster below the display reads: "a refreshingly good deal".
Two women were taken to hospital with facial injuries following the crash

Photographs showed the upper deck of the bus was significantly damaged, with multiple windows smashed.

According to the service's route, the bus should have taken a left turn before reaching the bridge.

South Central Ambulance Service said: "The male driver may have sustained a medical episode at the wheel and has also been taken to RBH for further assessment and treatment."

Four police officers in hi-viz jackets stand in the road near a police car. Further down the road is a large orange bus, the upper deck of which has been left misshapen due to damage.
A road closure was in place while National Highways assessed the damage to the bridge

The road was closed by Thames Valley Police while National Highways assessed the damage to the bridge - but it has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Reading Buses confirmed it was one of their company's vehicles and that it had "departed from the normal route".

They added: "We are working with the emergency services to investigate the circumstances."
