Officer charged with assaulting boy at care home

A police officer has been charged with assaulting a 17-year-old boy at a care home following an investigation by the police watchdog.

PC James Wilkinson, 39, of Derbyshire Police, is charged with one count of actual bodily harm in relation to the incident at a home in Chesterfield on 21 March.

It is alleged the officer assaulted the boy after he was called to the care home in the early hours.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said PC Wilkinson is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

An investigation by the IOPC was launched on 28 March after the force referred two complaints relating to the visit.

The watchdog said it sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) which subsequently authorised the charge against the officer.
