The family of a man who was due to become a father have paid tribute to him after he was killed in a crash between a recovery truck and a car.

Mathew Hardy, 34, from Pwllheli, was described by his family as a "gentle, calm and kind" man who was "deeply loved".

He died in the crash on the A487 Porthmadog bypass in Gwynedd at about 21:30 GMT on 20 December.

North Wales Police officers are appealing for information and any dashcam footage of the events leading up the crash.

Mr Hardy, who was driving an Isuzu recovery vehicle, was involved in a crash with Volkswagen Golf driver Daniel Atkinson, 40, from Blaenau Ffestiniog, who was also pronounced dead at the scene.

In a heartfelt tribute, Mr Hardy's family said the lives of their family had "changed forever following the incident".

"There are no words to describe the pain and grief we are feeling," they said.

"He was an incredible son, partner, brother and friend, and his absence will leave us feeling an emptiness forever."

His family said he was "thrilled" after recently moving into a new home, and he was expecting a baby girl in the near future.

"We truly appreciate everyone's kindness and support and politely ask for privacy during this difficult time," they added.
