Work to make the building on Upper Villiers Street safe remained ongoing, officials said

A road near the site of a huge factory fire will remain closed as work to secure the building is ongoing, officials say.

The blaze gutted an industrial site near Sunbeam Street's junction with Upper Villiers Street in Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, on 14 January.

At its height, more than 100 firefighters tackled the fire and, due to the unsafe condition of the factory, the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

A spokesperson for the City of Wolverhampton Council said on Friday that Upper Villiers Street was to remain temporarily closed, from its junction with Moorfield Road to its junction with Sunbeam Street, until further notice.

Ongoing building safety work carried out by the local authority and business owners was cited as the reason for the closure.

A diversion route was in place for Goldthorn Hill, Penn Road, Marston Road and vice versa, the spokesperson added.
