Town's 'energy and diversity' part of culture bid
Robin ZahlerMorecambe's bid to become the UK's first Town of Culture will aim to show the area's "energy, diversity and creativity", organisers have said.
Representatives of Morecambe Winter Gardens, Deco Publique and More Music are seeking thoughts from residents about what they think should go at the heart of the town's bid.
Thousands of towns are trying to win a prize of £3m to fund a 12-month cultural programme.
Speaking ahead of a public drop-in session on 23 March, Marianne Barraclough of More Music said "exciting narratives" over the "identity, strength and future potential" of Morecambe were already being shaped.
Barraclough said they had already started speaking to local groups in education, sport and the arts about the bid.
Stephen Armstrong/Geograph"This stage is focused on gathering insight, understanding priorities and developing a proposal that genuinely reflects our town's identity and ambitions," she said.
"We are laying the groundwork for a bid rooted in shared purpose."
The joint partnership said it sought to show the "energy, diversity and creativity" of Morecambe.
Towns can submit an expression of interest until 31 March, with a shortlist expected to be announced in the spring.
Those shortlisted will get £60,000 to help develop their full bid application whilst the two runners up will receive £250,000 to deliver elements of their initial bid.
Those who cannot make the drop-in session at Morecambe Library are advised to share their ideas online.
