Several parts of Nuneaton will be reduced to bare earth ahead of new wildflower meadows growing, residents are warned.

The sites will be at Tiverton Drive, Camborne Drive and Wadebridge Drive on Horeston Grange, and Frensham Drive, Freesland Rise and Beverley Avenue on Poplar Farm.

The works have been funded by "biodiversity offsetting" payments made to the borough council by developers, and preparation will begin in spring.

"Native insects and mammals will all benefit from these meadow areas, we are delighted that this is happening and it will boost our environment for our residents for many years to come," said Brady Hughes, portfolio holder for leisure and health.

Existing grass will be removed initially, and the ground will be cultivated before the meadow seed mix is sown.

The meadow areas will be cut in late summer/autumn and the cuttings will be removed to encourage the natural seeding and regrowth of the meadow the following year, the council said.
