A man in his 80s arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Bournemouth has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The woman, in her 60s, was found dead at an address in Wentworth Avenue on Tuesday shortly before 12:30 GMT.

Dorset Police said following an assessment by mental health professionals he had since been detained under the act. The force said the man was known to the woman.

The force said a cordon was in place and people in the area could expect to see an increased police presence "over the coming days" while an investigation into the circumstances of the death continued.

The force said the family of the woman, aged in her 60s, had been informed and were continuing to be supported by officers, "our thoughts are with them at this time".
