Ludlow has a regular market held in Castle Square

New parking restrictions could be introduced to stop vehicles obstructing a market.

Despite putting up signs in Ludlow's Castle Square, the town council regularly has to tell people to move their cars, because they are getting in the way of stall holders.

If approved by Shropshire Council, the new restrictions would involve a traffic regulation order with limited loading times and yellow lines to create a no parking area at the entrance to the Castle Street car park.

The town council said considerate parking would "protect the livelihoods of those who bring life and colour to Ludlow Market".

On occasions stalls have had to be set up around cars which are left in the market square and the town council said: "When vehicles park where they shouldn't, even for a short time, it can block access, delay set‑ups, and create unnecessary strain."

It asked people to respect the traders and said: "Every stall represents passion, early mornings, long hours in all weathers, and a deep commitment to keeping Ludlow's historic market vibrant."

Shropshire Council's recently appointed interim executive manager for strategic transport is set to attend a town council meeting on Monday to discuss the parking plans.

The town council thanked those residents, visitors, and delivery drivers who respected the recently erected market parking signs.

It said: "For our traders, that simple act of consideration eases a daily burden."
