Shropshire Council said a change in the law affected more than 29,000 postal voters in the county, who were contacted last autumn

Letters and emails are going to more than 10,000 Shropshire residents to advise them their postal vote has expired.

A change in the law in 2022 meant the maximum time a voter could hold a postal vote was three years, not indefinitely, Shropshire Council said.

The change affected more than 29,000 in the county who were contacted last autumn and advised they would have to apply if they wanted their postal vote to remain for future elections.

Anyone who had not reapplied by mid-October was then sent a letter, including an application form, and over more than had not replied by the 31 January 2026 deadline.

They were now being contacted by the council elections team and invited to reapply.
