People are being invited to represent Jersey at an international poetry festival.

Transpoesie 2026 is a two-day event taking place between 17 to 19 September, in Brussels, aiming to bring together poets, translators from across Europe to celebrate languages, place, and cultural exchange.

Recruiters said the successful applicant would be given financial support by the government to get to the festival, as well as the chance to perform three of their poems while there. Applicants need to be living in Jersey, over 18, and able to travel unaccompanied.

Dr Adam Perchard, who represented Jersey in 2024, described the experience as "transformative".

He said: "[It] was an extraordinary, transformative experience.

"I met and exchanged ideas with some incredible poets from across Europe – poets writing in more than a dozen languages about war, trauma, healing, feminisms, injustices, culture, history, and the gaps between meaning and unmeaning.

"It was a joyful, fiercely stimulating time."

To apply, poets should submit their name and samples of their work to the government's Creative Island Partnership by 09:00 BST on Monday 30 March.
