Police officers in Aughton to execute an arrest warrant found a man with a crossbow

A huge emergency response was deployed when police went to arrest a man believed to be armed with a crossbow.

Cheshire Police officers went to Aughton in Lancashire on Friday in connection with a serious assault in Runcorn.

Armed back-up was called, a police helicopter was scrambled, and a number of ambulances were seen lining Winifred Lane.

But the force said while two crossbows were recovered from the house, no-one was injured and three men were taken into custody.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told the BBC: "The incident was confined to a property and there was no risk to the public.

"The crossbow was not discharged and no one was injured. Two crossbows have been seized from the property."

The force said no-one else is outstanding but enquiries were ongoing.
