Woman dies and man injured in A1 crash
GoogleA woman who was a passenger in a car which crashed at a roundabout has died.
It happened at about 20:40 GMT on Wednesday on the A1 at Highfields Roundabout, near to the junction with the A1167 North Road in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Northumbria Police said a black Peugeot 407 Coupe was travelling southbound when it came off the road on to a nearby embankment.
The woman, aged in her 40s, died at the scene. The driver, a man aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition.
A section of the A1 was closed for several hours between Berwick and Eyemouth.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
