Forty cars too damaged to be moved from fire site
Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue ServiceForty vehicles cannot be removed from a hospital car park because of fire damage.
Fire broke out on the second floor of Car Park 1 at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge at 16:16 GMT on Saturday, trapping 425 cars inside.
The fire, ruled as accidental, was due to a mechanical fault with a diesel vehicle, the county's fire service said.
A spokeswoman for NCP, which manages the car park, said on Wednesday night that many people had collected their vehicles, but 140 remained on site and "40 vehicles that were in the area of the immediate fire... will not be able to be removed yet due to fire damage".
NCP said it was contacting the owners of the 40 damaged cars.
The spokeswoman added: "The car park remains closed.
"There is fire damage to parts of the building, and we are working extremely hard to get the car park reopened, when it is safe to do so. We will announce that as soon as we can."
Shaun Whitmore/BBCEmergency services attended the scene on Saturday and the fire service said it had sent 12 crews to the site.
No-one is believed to have been injured.
Cambridge University Hospitals Trust said Car Park 1 "will remain closed for some time" and asked patients and visitors to use the Trumpington or Babraham Road park and rides "where possible".
