A second person has been charged with murder following the death of an 18-month old girl.

Jayla-Jean McLaren suffered serious injuries and died in hospital on the Isle of Wight on 3 August.

Adrian David Lawton, 31, of Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, was charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. He is due before magistrates in Southampton on Wednesday.

Samara Glover, from Newport, is due to stand trial later this year on the same charges.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary urged people not to speculate on this case, as it could potentially impact any future court proceedings.

In a statement previously issued through police, the girl's family said: "Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess."
