Hollywood star Margot Robbie has revealed she has a major passion for a BBC sitcom.

Robbie, who stars in a new film of the classic novel Wuthering Heights, said the much-loved comedy Gavin & Stacey was the "best show ever".

So much so, she added, that she shared her love for it with Bette Midler and watched the series' much-loved finale not once, but twice.

Robbie stars alongside fellow Aussie A-lister Jacob Elordi in a fresh adaptation of Emily Brontë's gothic tale of passion, obsession and revenge, which opened in cinemas for Valentine's weekend.

But she took time to explain her appreciation for the small-screen love story, filmed and partly set in Wales, on the Table Manners podcast.

Robbie told hosts Jessie and Lennie Ware she particularly loved the sitcom's will-they-won't-they finale, when Smithy proposed to Nessa, played by co-writers James Corden and Welsh actor Ruth Jones.

She said it was "the best show ever [that] just makes me so happy".

The record-breaking finale episode aired on Christmas Day 2024, with nearly 12 million people tuning in on the day, and the total watches exceeding 20 million.

Robbie also revealed she ended up talking about the show - which tells stories of family and friendships after the title characters' worlds of Barry and Billericay collide - during a dinner with show business legend Bette Midler.

"I was telling her about Gavin & Stacey and I was like, honestly, Gavin & Stacy is one of the best," Robbie said.

"I sent her the whole DVD package afterwards, and she wrote me an email, being like, 'don't worry, I already started watching it after I heard you talk about it. I'll watch the rest on the DVDs now'."

Meanwhile, this week it was revealed that the terrace house used in Gavin & Stacey as character Uncle Bryn's home in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, is on the market for £210,000.

Welsh comedian Rob Brydon, who played Uncle Bryn, previously told the BBC One Show he sent Robbie a birthday message in character after finding out she was a fan of the sitcom.

Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights opened in the UK on 13 February.

The film has been the subject of some controversy since it was first announced, over its casting and other creative choices made, but reviews see critics divided.
