A road rage driver sparked a police chase after reportedly punching a motorist he had been arguing with in the face before ramming their car.

Police were called to Sudbury, Suffolk, by a driver who phoned the force to report their car was being driven into on Gainsborough Street at about 21:35 GMT on Saturday, 28 March.

Officers located the suspect's grey Audi A6, which failed to stop and attempted to reverse into a police car on Gregory Street.

A chase ensued across the county and ended 14 miles (22km) away when a stinger was successfully deployed in Kedington, but the driver fled.

According to the force, the incident started over an earlier disagreement between the suspect and the victim, who was driving a black Mercedes.

It was then that the suspect reportedly followed the victim before getting out of his car and punching him in the face after they had parked up.

He then followed them again, this time around the town before allegedly ramming their car into the Mercedes.

The subsequent police chase saw officers follow the driver out of Sudbury towards Clare before a stinger was deployed in Kedington.

It got stuck under the wheels of the Audi before the driver got out on Rectory Road.

Despite officers conducting searches, he escaped.

"Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance," a Suffolk Police spokesperson said.

"They are also appealing for anyone who may have private CCTV or doorbell camera footage in the areas mentioned to review it for any material that may be of assistance."
