Four police officers have been given an award for their roles in saving the life of a man who was stabbed.

On 15 March, Jordan Williamson, 32, attacked a man in his own home in Biddulph, Staffordshire. leaving him with serious head, chest and back injuries and he was later jailed for 23 years for the stabbing.

PCs Ryan Wood, Oliver Jones, Jesse Bostock and Stacie White were presented with a Chief Constable's Commendation Award for their efforts after the attack.

Wood was the first on the scene and went into the house without hesitation, using pepper spray on Williamson and pushing him away from the victim, the force said.

Armed with the knife, Williamson ran into a bathroom and tried to barricade himself inside.

Jones then arrived and worked with Wood to stop Williamson from closing the door.

Bostock followed up and the three officers restrained him, putting him in handcuffs and leg restraints.

It later emerged Williamson did not know the man he stabbed, police said.

While he was being taken into custody, White came to the victim's aid as well as reassuring everyone else in the house and keeping the force's control room up to date.

Following the attack, the victim said: "I am really pleased that the officers have been recognised for their bravery.

"Without them acting so decisively I have no doubt that I would not be here today."

"As police officers, we swear to protect the public and face danger, so others do not have to. However, few officers will encounter a threat of this magnitude in their career," said Acting Chief Constable Rebecca Riggs, as the quarter got their award on 9 February.

"Ryan, Oliver, Jesse and Stacie displayed exceptional bravery, professionalism and selflessness, confronting a knife-wielding offender under the influence of drugs, in confined conditions.

"PC Ryan Wood in particular demonstrated remarkable courage in entering the address alone and intervening directly to stop the attack.

"His actions undoubtedly saved the victim's life and exemplify the highest standards of policing."
