The States of Jersey Police said emergency services were called to a crash on Saturday morning

A motorcycle rider will be flown to Southampton for treatment after sustaining a serious leg injury following a single-vehicle collision on Jersey, police have said.

The States of Jersey Police said emergency services were called to Longueville Road shortly after 05:00 GMT on Saturday to the incident which involved a black Yamaha XJR1300.

Police said the road from Rue des Pres Trading Estate and La Rue a Don was closed until 11:05 while specialist teams carried out investigation work, but Le Vier Mont remains closed while police continue to investigate.

The force said a man, 31, had come off the motorcycle, resulting in a "serious lower leg injury" and was first taken to Jersey Hospital.

Police said no other people or vehicles were believed to be involved.

"The rider's condition is stable but due to the seriousness of the leg injury will be urgently flown to Southampton for ongoing medical treatment," the force said.

"The family are aware."

Police have asked any witnesses to get in touch and asked people to avoid the area. It is believed the man was travelling eastbound on Longueville Road towards the direction of Grouville Hill (La Rue a Don) prior to the crash.

"Police would like to speak with anyone who may have seen the motorbike prior to the collision, seen or heard the collision itself, or have dash camera or CCTV footage in the moments before and afterwards."
