A 15-year-old boy has been charged with drink-driving on an electric moped after a police chase.

Officers had pursued the vehicle which "made off at speed" in St Annes on Wednesday evening, Lancashire Police said.

The rider abandoned the vehicle down an alleyway. A teenager was later detained and arrested.

The force said he blew over the legal limit for alcohol at the roadside. He was charged with driving whilst over the limit for alcohol, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He will appear before Preston Youth Court in April.

The bike has been seized and will be crushed, the force said.
