'Super Sammy' could break club appearance record
Getty ImagesA professional footballer's milestone appearance for an EFL club is a "remarkable achievement", a BBC commentator has said.
Northampton Town striker Sam Hoskins made his 450th appearance for the Cobblers on Tuesday, becoming the club's second-highest all-time appearance maker.
Hoskins, 33, is now only second to the late Tommy Fowler, who featured 552 times for the club between 1945 and 1961.
BBC Radio Northampton commentator Tim Oglethorpe said it was "not beyond belief" that Hoskins could go on to break Fowler's long-standing record.
"Players tend to move around [clubs] more in the modern games," he said.
"Super Sammy has been at the Cobblers since 2015 and racked up all these appearances. It's really impressive."
Hoskins will be out of contract with the League One side at the end of the current season, but Oglethorpe said creating Northampton Town history remained "possible" is he extends his Sixfields stay.
The striker's 450th appearance moved him clear of Ian Sampson, but came on an otherwise disappointing night as the Cobblers were beaten 4-0 at promotion chasing Lincoln City.
