Floodlights plan for football ground approved
BBCFloodlights will be installed at a sports ground as part of a council's plan to encourage more football there.
The six lights will be put in place at Faraday Road, in Newbury, as part of a West Berkshire Council project, which initially proposed replacing its grass pitch with a 4G artificial one.
That element of the plan has been delayed, however, after concerns were raised about microplastics in the 4G pitch entering the nearby River Kennet.
The council's planning committee formally approved the installation of the lights at a meeting on Thursday.
Newbury FC returned to Faraday Road in November 2024 after the club was evicted by West Berkshire Council's former Conservative administration in 2018 in a row over the site's potential redevelopment.
The council proposes the pitch will eventually be used between 08:00 and 22:00, Monday to Friday, and between 08:00 and 20:00 at weekends.
