Police investigate murder of man in Portadown

A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 40s died in Portadown.

It was reported to police at about 23:00 GMT on Thursday that a man was injured following an altercation at a property in Ranfurley Road in the County Armagh town.

Police and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men in their 50s have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Police officers spent Friday afternoon make door-to-door inquiries, talking to residents.

Det Ch Insp Bradley from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said police "are appealing to anyone who believes they may have information which could assist us with our investigation, any dashcam or doorbell footage to contact us".

Portadown DUP councillor Kyle Moutray said the murder has come as a "huge shock" to everyone in the area.

"This is a tragedy," he said, adding that it's "a close knit community".

"We're in close proximity to a primary school. There's a lot of elderly people here, a lot of younger families. They've obviously been very unnerved by this news."
