Electrical fire breaks out at arts centre

An arts centre was evacuated when an electrical fire broke out in its external sign.

The blaze took hold at Stockton ARC at about 10:40 GMT and crews from Cleveland Fire Brigade cordoned off part of Nelson Terrace while they put out the flames.

A spokesperson for the arts centre said the fire was "swiftly extinguished" and the Arc has now reopened.

"Earlier today we experienced a minor electrical fire on the exterior of our building causing a small level of cosmetic damage," they said, confirming events will still go ahead as planned.
