Fire crews have now left the site of an industrial fire which had been burning for more than a week.

A large fire broke out at Hathernware industrial estate, off Rempstone Road, Sutton Bonington in Nottinghamshire, near the Leicestershire border, shortly before 10:45 BST on 15 April.

Large quantities of smoke drifted across nearby houses but the authorities assessed the risk to health as low.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it continued to work alongside partner agencies to support the recovery phase, manage any remaining risks, and minimise disruption to the local community.

Crews from Derbyshire and Leicestershire also attended the scene

At its height, 13 fire engines - from Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire - were sent to the blaze, which involved large quantities of industrial waste, as well as buildings, timber and trailers.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Crews have been out in the community this morning providing fire safety advice and reassurance to local residents following the recent incident at the industrial estate.

"Firefighting operations have now concluded, after crews worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control and tackle remaining hotspots within the site.

"The incident required a significant multi-agency response, with partners including local authorities, environmental specialists and health agencies working together throughout."
