Two parks in Awsworth have been revamped with new and accessible playground equipment.

Shilo Recreation Ground gained a new, larger trampoline suitable for wheelchair users, and a trim trail featuring five sections of varied challenges.

New child-friendly equipment has also been installed at the Lane Recreation Ground with repairs made to the rubber safety surface.

Awsworth Parish Council, which runs both parks in Nottinghamshire, said the revamp was funded through a £20,000 grant from the government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Parish clerk Hayley Holt added the successful application was a "great boost to ensure our play areas remain a safe and fun space" for families.

Broxtowe Borough Council said the funding prevented the need to partially or fully close the areas due to unsafe equipment.

Milan Radulovic, the council's portfolio holder for asset management and development, said: "Playgrounds are such an important part of our local communities and are a great way for our children to exercise, get outside, and to socialise and play with others.

"Thankfully, through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we have been able to provide fantastic new apparatus for Awsworth Parish Council, helping to keep kids playing for years to come."

The borough council added it was allocated about £1m of the £25m UKSPF pot made available for local authorities in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
