A 37-year-old man has been arrested after the hit-and-run

A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a hit-and-run, police have said.

He was struck on Preston Road near to the junction with Pinfold Lane in Alston, Lancashire by a Nissan Serena vehicle at around 01:33 GMT.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said the driver did not stop at the scene but was found later in the Preston area.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop and is currently in custody, the force added.

The incident happened on Preston Road near the junction with Pinfold Lane in Alston, near Longridge

Sgt Paul McCurrie said: "My thoughts are very much with the injured man as he undergoes treatment and care in hospital.

"This was a collision which resulted in him receiving significant injuries and an investigation was launched immediately into the cause of it."

Police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident or anyone with footage to contact them.
