Royal Mail has started an investigation after video footage emerged which appeared to show a man dressed in its company uniform urinating in a doorway.

The footage, given to the BBC, shows a man slowly climbing a flight of stairs inside a block of flats in Loughton, Essex, before turning and standing at a closed doorway for several seconds.

The resident who caught the moment on his doorbell camera said he was "disgusted" and had complained to Royal Mail.

A spokesperson for the company said it was looking into the incident "as a priority".

The incident was recorded on Friday, 13 March at a residential two-storey block at around 17:50 GMT.

The resident - who was in at the time - said he noticed someone unfamiliar on his doorbell camera. When he went outside, he said the man had left, but there was a puddle of what is believed to be urine outside the doorway to his storage room.

A Royal Mail spokesperson told the BBC: "We are looking into it as a priority".

"While we are still establishing the full circumstances, this is not the standard of behaviour we expect from our people," they added.
