The M25 in Essex is closed clockwise after a crash involving three lorries caused a fuel spillage.

The road is closed between junction 27 for the M11 and junction 28 for the A12, near Brentwood.

The crash was first reported at 03:00 GMT, according to the traffic system Inrix.

National Highways said the road was likely to be shut for the rest of Wednesday for vehicle recovery and resurfacing works.

A large diesel spillage is across three lanes of the southbound carriageway, National Highways said.

Traffic being held within the closure was released at about 05:20, when one lane was opened to allow it to pass.

A diversion is in place via the M11 north to Harlow, A414 to Chelmsford, and the A12 back to London.
