A Wolverhampton Wanderers FC legend will be among people supporting a free cancer awareness event later.

Former midfielder Steve Daley, who was treated for prostate cancer following his diagnosis in 2022, will be part of a panel at the football club's North Bank Bar from 17:30 GMT on Wednesday.

"I try and help raise awareness of what happened to me just in case it helps other people, and am looking forward to meeting people at this event at Molineux," he said.

The evening is open to all and is part of Wolves Foundation's Head 4 Health project. It includes different organisations who can offer advice and guidance.

The groups include Foundation Pack Patrons Nuffield Health, who can carry out free health checks, Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, MacMillan Cancer Support and NHS Living Beyond Cancer Support.

Daley, who scored 43 goals for Wolves between 1971 and 1979, will be on the lived in experience panel.

"It was a huge shock when I first got told I had cancer, but, sadly as we know, it is indiscriminate and can happen to anyone," he said.

"What I try and say to people from my experience is that if you have any sort of symptoms, or something just doesn't feel right, make sure you go and get it checked out.

"The earlier the diagnosis, the better the chances of recovery, and I have to say the NHS were absolutely brilliant with me right the way through the process."

The foundation said visitors could arrive at 17:30 or also drop-in when they liked.
