A man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

A 47-year-old man charged with attempted murder after a man in his 40s was stabbed has appeared in court.

The attack took place in the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds at about 22:15 BST on 22 March, Suffolk Police said.

Sebastian Smith, of Lewisham, London, was charged with attempted murder after being arrested in south-east London on Thursday and transported to Suffolk for questioning.

He appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 5 May.

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained in a stable condition, Suffolk Police said.

A 44-year-old man from Brixton has been released on police bail after being arrested twice on suspicion of murder on 25 March and 3 April.

A 38-year-old man has also been released on police bail after being arrested on the same charge on 30 March.

The force said it continued to progress numerous lines of inquiry and recently seized three vehicles suspected to have been used by the alleged offenders.

These were a black Nissan Note, a beige or light-coloured Nissan Note, and a black Nissan Micra.

A police spokesperson said: "Detectives are appealing for anyone who believes they saw any vehicles matching these descriptions in the vicinity of Mortimer Road on the night of Sunday 22 March, and this includes anyone driving in the area that may have dash camera footage."
